CHARITY NGILU'S MESSAGE TO PRESIDENT RUTO AHEAD OF CABINET APPOINTMENT

Charity Ngilu said she would wait to see if Ruto appoints women to constitute half of his cabinet.
Former Kitui governor Charity Ngilu is hopeful President William Ruto will make good on his promise of giving 50 percent of cabinet slots to women.

The president who is out of the country on official duty is expected to embark on naming his cabinet once he lands back.

Ngilu through a tweet exuded optimism that the head of state would not renege on the pledge made to women prior to the August 9 presidential vote.
"He (Ruto) promised 50%. 11 women in cabinet, that we can support. Let’s wait and see," said Ngilu.
Her tweet attracted mixed reactions with a majority arguing she was angling for a post in Ruto's cabinet.

Ngilu is a known chief critic of the president and prior to the elections, she dismissed the chances of Ruto winning the vote.
The president is on record ruling out appointing members of the opposition into his government.
Ruto, prior to the elections, vowed to see to it that women are incorporated in positions of power.

Speaking at the Nyayo National Stadium on June 10 while unveiling the Kenya KWanza Women Charter, he said he would ensure women are included in his administration should he win.
He promised to implement the third gender rule in his administration in the first three months adding that 50 percent of his Cabinet would be constituted by women.

“I commit to actualise the two-thirds gender rule and to put in place mechanisms within the first three months of the Kenya Kwanza gov’t; we shall allocate 50 percent of the cabinet to women,” said Ruto.
